Braves remain undefeated against section opponents

Menahga jumped out to a 17-0 lead and coasted to a 62-19 victory over Browerville-Eagle Valley on Feb. 11 in a rescheduled game to remain undefeated against Section 5A girls basketball teams this season.

Cierra Ahlf opened the game by hitting a 3-pointer before two baskets off rebounds by Tara Hendrickson and a layup and jumper by Alyssa Peterson made it 11-0. Peterson then hit back-to-back 3-pointers as the Braves led 17-0 with 13:15 to play in the first half.

Layups by Hendrickson, Peterson and Ahlf sparked an 8-0 run to make it 25-3 at the 10:46 mark before a layup by Greta Hillukka and three inside baskets by Hendrickson produced a 36-10 advantage at the break.

The Braves extended their lead to 48-10 behind 3-pointers by Hillukka and Peterson and layups by Hillukka, Annika Aho and Peterson. A layup by Peterson, a putback by Janie Tormanen, layups by Hendrickson and Ahlf, and a 3-pointer by Maryn Pinoniemi made it 60-15 before a layup by Hillukka concluded the scoring.

Peterson's 20 points and five assists, Hendrickson's 17 points, and Ahlf's 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals led the Braves, who improved to 9-0 against section opponents and 20-1 overall. No player hit double figures as B-EV fell to 2-8 in section games and 4-15 overall.
