McKenna Brand made an impressive debut in her first two professional hockey games.
The 2014 graduate of Park Rapids Area High School and 2018 graduate of Northeastern University scored her first professional goal as the Boston Pride opened the National Women’s Hockey League season with a 5-1 win over the Metropolitan Riveters on Oct. 13. Brand’s goal in the second period tied the game at 1-1. Brand finished with four shots on goal.
Brand followed by scoring the game-winning goal in Boston’s 4-2 victory over the Connecticut Whalers on Oct. 20. Brand had three shots on goal, including the game-winner in the third period, in that game as the Pride improved to 2-0.
The Minnesota Whitecaps lead the league standings at 4-0 while Boston and the Buffalo Beauts are tied for second at 2-0. Connecticut is 0-3 and Metropolitan is 0-5 in the early going of the 16-game regular-season schedule in this five-team league.
