Braham tops Tigers at Aitkin tournament

The Bombers edged the Nevis girls basketball team 48-46 despite double-doubles by Makenna Frazier and Ava Isaacson.

Adelia Pierson and Hannah Cornelius hit 3-pointers down the stretch in sparking Braham to a 48-46 victory over the Nevis girls basketball team in the first round of the Aitkin Quarterbacks Club Tournament on Dec. 27.

The Tigers were scheduled to play Ashby in the third-place game on Dec. 28, but that game was canceled because of the weather.

In the semifinals against Braham, the Tigers used two layups by Ava Isaacson and a layup, a jumper and a basket off a rebound by Makenna Frazier to built a 10-2 lead before layups by Kia Heide and Frazier made it 17-11. Braham responded with a 16-2 run to take a 27-19 lead before a pair of layups by Frazier made it 27-23 at the half.

Layups by Frazier and Heide, a jumper by Addison Lindow, and a basket off a rebound by Isaacson gave Nevis a 33-30 lead before Pierson and Cornelius hit 3-pointers to spark an 11-2 run as the Bombers led 41-35. Lindow, Isaacson and Frazier scored off rebounds and Isaacson scored off a steal as the Tigers’ late rally fell short.

Frazier (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Isaacson (16 points, 15 rebounds) posted double-doubles for the Tigers. Lindow added nine rebounds and three assists while Frazier had six steals as Nevis fell to 1-8 on the season.
