Bessler, Isaacson serve Tigers past Wrenshall

The Nevis volleyball team served 13 aces and had 46 kills in the 3-1 victory.

Kayli Bessler and Ava Isaacson served four aces apiece while Makenna Frazier and Marley Mitchell combined for 23 kills in Nevis’ 3-1 win over Wrenshall at the Tiger Arena on Thursday, Nov. 12.

Frazier’s 12 kills and Mitchell’s 11 kills led the way in the Tigers’ 22-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 victory.

Two kills by Frazier and a kill by Bessler gave Nevis a 7-3 lead in Set 1 before Wrenshall responded with a 7-0 run for a 10-7 advantage. Kills by Mitchell, Frazier, Isaacson, Lindow and Sadie Thurner kept the Tigers within 16-13 before three kills by Mitchell, two kills by Frazier and an ace serve by Lindow tied the set at 20-20. The Wrens closed with a 5-2 run to take the opening set.

Two kills by Mitchell and kills by Bessler and Frazier helped Nevis battle to an 8-8 tie to start Set 2. Two kills by Bessler, an ace serve by Thurner and a kill by Lindow gave the Tigers a 12-8 edge. An ace serve by Lindow, two kills by Mitchell, and kills by Isaacson and Frazier made it 19-14 before two kills by Lindow and a kill by Bessler ended the set and evened the match.

A pair of ace serves by Isaacson and kills by Lindow and Bessler gave Nevis a 4-1 lead to start Set 3. Kills by Frazier, Lindow, Isaacson and Bessler along with a pair of blocks by Bessler and two more ace serves by Isaacson extended the lead to 16-9. Three kills by Frazier along with kills by Lindow, Mitchell and Isaacson and a block by Bessler closed out that set.

Wrenshall started Set 4 with a 7-4 lead before Bessler served three aces and Mitchell and Mya Stacey had kills to give the Tigers a 10-8 lead. After the Wrens went on a 7-0 run for a 15-10 advantage, a block by Mitchell, an ace serve by Thurner and a kill by Mitchell tied the set at 17-17. Kills by Bessler and Frazier and an ace serve by Bessler closed out the match.

Lindow and Bessler added eight kills each while Stacey had 38 set assists for the Tigers, who had 46 kills with 21 hitting errors and 13 ace serves with 12 service errors in the match. Maggie Carrier (18), Lindow (13), Stacey (11) and Thurner (11) had double digits in digs as Nevis improved to 4-2 on the season.

Wrenshall, which had 22 kills with 13 hitting errors and seven aces with 12 service errors, fell to 0-7 on the season.
