Baso, Dormanen spark Midway past Bagley, Huntersville

Mike Baso went 5 for 7 with four runs and six RBI in leading Midway to amateur baseball victories over Bagley and Huntersville last week.

Baso went 3 for 4 with two runs and five RBI as Midway shut out Bagley 12-0 in seven innings last Friday night at Menahga and went 2 for 3 with a home run and two runs scored in the Snurdbirds' 7-6 win over Huntersville Sunday afternoon at Hubbard.

Tony Meech and Zach Etter combined on a one-hitter and struck out 12 in the win over Bagley. Jeff Marjamaa went 3 for 3 while Jake Lund and Drew Rasmussen each went 2 for 2 with an RBI. Etter, Derek Dormanen and Rasmussen each scored twice while Brett Dormanen, Marjamaa and Chris Baso contributed an RBI each. Meech gave up one hit and struck out eight in four innings for the win while Etter struck out four over the final three innings.

Nisswa scored twice in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Midway 4-2 last Saturday night at Nisswa. Jeff Marjamaa and Lund each went 2 for 5 to pace Midway's nine-hit attack. Mike Baso and Meech scored the two runs on RBIs by Marjamaa and Ben Davis. Brad Lusti allowed two runs on seven hits with 12 strikeouts over the first nine innings. Derek Dormanen took the loss, allowing two runs in the 10th.

Midway improved to 12-4 on the season by outslugging Huntersville. Derek Dormanen led Midway's 13-hit attack by going 5 for 6 with two RBI. Chris Baso and Travis Lusti had two hits each and scored a run. Lund, Brad Lusti and Rasmussen scored the other runs while Mike Baso, Davis, Lund, Travis Lusti and Brad Lusti had one RBI each. Pete Marjamaa earned the win in relief. Lund started and gave up three runs on six hits and five strikeouts over the first three innings. Brett Dormanen allowed two unearned runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. Marjamaa pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
