Despite going through a 19-game losing streak, head coach Paul Schroeder was impressed with the positive attitude displayed by the Nevis girls basketball team.

The Tigers were rewarded for their continued hard work with a dominating 70-30 Northwoods Conference victory at Laporte on Feb. 18.

"I think the girls enjoyed the win. More importantly, I believe they enjoyed seeing how much they had improved from the first time we played Laporte at the beginning of the year," said Schroeder, whose team defeated the Wildcats 47-40 in the second game of the season on Nov. 30. "Obviously, I haven't been stressing wins and losses this year. I have been stressing trying to improve each week, keeping their attitudes positive even though the wins aren't coming yet, and most importantly, having fun playing the game while we develop into a better team. Saying that, the whole team has done exactly that throughout the season. Our wins and losses might not show it right now, but this young team plays hard, doesn't give up or hang their heads during the losses, and continues to persevere and improve. As a coach, I really can't ask any more from them at this point. However, summer will come and I'll be asking a lot more of them in the off season in developing their game to take us to the next level."

The Tigers took their game to a new level by jumping out to a 23-0 lead. Emily Funk hit four jumpers, Katie Kamphaus scored four baskets inside, Makenna Frazier scored on a pair of layups and Ashley Pyburn hit a 3-pointer to put Nevis in control.
