It's easy to see why Roseau is once again considered the favorite to win the Section 8AA girls basketball title for the fifth year in a row.

Led by the trio of Kacie Borowicz, Katie Borowicz and Julia Braaten, the Rams improved to 9-0 against section opponents with an 89-47 victory over Park Rapids Feb. 8 at the Area High School gym. Roseau is currently the top team in the North half of the section while the Panthers sit atop the South standings.

The Borowicz sisters and Braaten hit double figures by halftime as Roseau used a 36-8 run to build a 53-22 advantage at the break.

Park Rapids built a 5-4 lead with 16:37 to play in the first half behind a 3-pointer by Natalie Kinkel and a jumper by Rilee Michaelson.

The Rams responded with a 21-1 run as three baskets by Kacie Borowicz, three layups by Katie Borowicz, and 3-pointers by Braaten and Katie Borowicz produced a 25-6 lead at the 10:17 mark.

After Michaelson's layup and two free throws made it 27-10 with 8:22 to go in the first half, three baskets by Kacie Borowicz and a 3-pointer by Braaten pushed the Rams' lead to 40-13 at the 4:54 mark. Julia Johnson hit a 3-pointer for the Panthers during that stretch.

A 3-pointer and jumper by Kaisa Coborn and two baskets off rebounds by Michaelson were offset by a pair of layups by Katie Borowicz as Roseau took a comfortable lead into the break.

Katie Borowicz (18), Kacie Borowicz (16) and Braaten (14) scored 48 of Roseau's points in the first half. The Rams forced 20 Park Rapids turnovers, turning 20 steals into 11 fastbreak layups in the first 18 minutes.

Roseau doubled the Panthers' offensive production to start the second half as 3-pointers and layups by Emma Waling and Kacie Borowicz, five baskets by Kacie Borowicz, and two layups by Shavonda Bender pushed the lead to 77-34 with 10:25 remaining. Michaelson's two layups, a 3-pointer by Kinkel and a jumper by Kaisa Coborn led the Panthers during that span.

After 3-pointers by Kaisa Coborn and Kenda Coborn and a basket off a rebound by Michaelson made it 77-43 with 8:37 to play, a layup by Hanna Mooney, a jumper by Braaten and a 3-pointer by Katie Borowicz gave Roseau an 85-45 advantage as the final 7:37 was played with running time.

Katie Borowicz's 27 points, 15 assists and eight steals led Roseau. Kacie Borowicz (who surpassed 3,000 career points earlier this season) added 26 points, seven rebounds and five steals while Braaten finished with 16 points as the Rams improved to 19-2 on the season by extending their winning streak to 12 games in a row. Roseau leads all Class AA teams by averaging 79.0 points a game and was rated No. 2 in this week's state Class AA poll.

Michaelson tallied a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds while adding four steals and three blocked shots. Kaisa Coborn added 14 points and Kendra Coborn had six assists as the Panthers, who turned the ball over 31 times, fell to 7-1 in section games and 11-6 overall after suffering their third loss in a row.
