Menahga's defense set the tone in the first half as the Braves defeated Henning 45-32 Jan. 18 at Menahga in a battle of the top girls basketball teams in the Park Region Conference.

The Braves led 26-8 at the half in improving to 8-0 in the conference and 15-0 overall. Henning fell to 6-2 in conference play and 9-6 overall.

Cierra Ahlf led the Braves with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds while Alyssa Peterson added 12 points. Megan Hendrickson grabbed seven rebounds and Tara Hendrickson had six steals and five assists as Menahga overcame 20 turnovers and a 5-for-25 effort on 3-pointers for the win.

Boys fall to Henning

Four players scored in double figures as Henning remained undefeated on the season with an 85-70 Park Region Conference boys basketball victory over Menahga Jan. 17 at Henning.

Henning, which was rated No. 7 in the latest state Class A poll, improved to 6-0 in conference play and 14-0 overall behind the balanced scoring attack by Sam Fisher (23), Isaac Fisher (15), Blake Wallevand (11) and Adam Lange (10).

Jonah Howard's 16 points and nine rebounds led the Braves, who gave Henning a battle by making 8 of 17 3-pointers and 20 of 28 free throws. Tristan Aho added 14 points, Gavin Hillukka scored 13 points and had seven rebounds, and Charlie Hodge had 11 points. Menahga fell to 1-5 in conference play and 5-10 overall.
