Menahga girls advance to Section 5A North title game

The Menahga girls basketball team moved one step closer to advancing to the Section 5A championship game with a 68-55 win over Sebeka Saturday night at Pequot Lakes.

Menahga, the No. 1 seed in the North, improved to 28-0 by defeating No. 4 Sebeka for the third time this season and will play No. 2 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Tuesday night at 7 at Wadena for the North championship. W-H-A eliminated No. 3 Pine River-Backus 63-51 in Saturday night's other game at Pequot Lakes.

The winner of that game advances to the Section 5A championship game against either Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa or East Central March 9 at 7 p.m. at a site to be determined.

Park Rapids' bid to advance to the Section 8AA title game ended with an 81-46 loss to Roseau Saturday afternoon at Concordia College in Moorhead.

Roseau was the No. 2 seed in the North while Park Rapids was the No. 3 seed in the South. In Saturday's other Section 8AA games at Concordia, Barnesville eliminated Hawley 48-23, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton defeated Breckenridge 73-52 and East Grand Forks edged Perham 46-43.

The Section 8AA semifinals return to Concordia Tuesday night. Concordia will host the Section 8AA championship game March 9 at 7 p.m.
