Menahga girls coast in tournament opener

The Menahga girls basketball team opened the Section 5A tournament with a 75-22 win over Browerville/Eagle Valley Thursday night at Menahga.

Cierra Ahlf scored 25 points, Megan Hendrickson had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Alyssa Peterson scored 10 points for the Braves, who led 36-13 at the half.

Menahga, the No. 1 seed in the North, improved to 27-0 with the win over No. 8 B/EV and will play Sebeka Saturday night (March 3) at 6 at Pequot Lakes in the North semifinals. Sebeka, the No. 4 seed, defeated No. 5 McGregor 64-43 Thursday night at Sebeka.

Nevis, the No. 7 seed in the Section 5A North bracket, had its season end with an 80-35 loss to No. 2 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Thursday night at Walker. W-H-A will play No. 3 Pine River-Backus in the other North semifinal game at Pequot Lakes Saturday night (March 3).
