Bluffton and Perham used big innings to defeat Midway in a pair of amateur baseball games.
Bluffton used a four-run ninth inning to defeat the Snurdbirds 6-2 at Menahga on Friday, July 12, while Perham scored nine runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 6-4 deficit for a 13-8 win at Midway on Sunday, July 14.
After Bluffton scored twice in the third, Midway tied the game with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings before the Braves prevailed.
Chris Baso (3 for 5, one run, one RBI), Cory Odland (2 for 5) and Stetson Burkman (2 for 5) led Midway's 11-hit offensive attack. Preston Riewer (1 for 4, one run), Sam Beck (1 for 5, one RBI), Alex White (1 for 2) and Ike Kyllonen (1 for 3) also contributed a hit.
Burkman went the distance, allowing five earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five.
The Snurdbirds scored three times in the fifth and single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings to build a 6-4 lead before Perham erupted for nine runs in the seventh.
Baso (3 for 4, one run, three RBI), Riewer (2 for 4, two runs, one RBI) and White (2 for 4, one run) paced another 11-hit attack for the Snurdbirds. Beck (1 for 4, one run), Sam Champa (1 for 4, one run), Pete Marjamaa (1 for 5, two RBI) and Quincy Jantz (1 for 4, one run) also contributed a hit while Odland scored the other run as Midway fell to 1-12 on the season.
Odland started and gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts over the first four innings. Alexander Jimenez allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk in two innings. Marjamaa pitched two innings and gave up seven unearned runs on six hits. Baso allowed one hit and struck out one in the ninth.
Midway will conclude the regular season by hosting the Moorhead Brewers in a doubleheader on July 27 starting at 1:30 p.m. before traveling to Sebeka in the Lake and Pine League finale on July 28.
