Cameron Hoyt threw a three-hitter and was supported by a 14-hit attack as the Park Rapids American Legion baseball team coasted to a 13-2 five-inning victory over Hill City/Remer on Friday, June 28.
Hill City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Post 212 tied it in the bottom of that inning when Hoyt was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Cole Ackerman following walks to Ty Karger and Ethan Eischens.
A four-run second inning gave Park Rapids a 5-1 lead. Jaxson Lund and Collin Hoyt led off with walks before a single by Brody Hagen, a walk to Cameron Hoyt, and singles by Karger and Ackerman gave Post 212 the lead for good.
Collin Hoyt walked and scored on Karger's RBI single in the third for a 6-1 advantage before Park Rapids followed a run by Hill City in the fourth by scoring seven times in the bottom of that inning to seal the win. Ackerman was hit by a pitch before singles by Isaiah Olson and Josh Crandall set up a two-run single by Lund. After a single by Hagen, Cameron Hoyt, Karger and Eischens followed with RBI singles before Olson's two-run double concluded the scoring. Post 212 sent 12 batters to the plate in that inning.
Hagen (3 for 4), Karger (3 for 3), Ackerman (2 for 2) and Olson (2 for 4) led Park Rapids' offense. Cameron Hoyt walked five and struck out four in a complete-game victory as the Legion improved to 3-7 this season.
Park Rapids will conclude the regular season by hosting Wadena-Deer Creek in a doubleheader on July 15. Park Rapids will host the first round of the playoffs on July 19-21.
