Nimrod scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 5-4 walk-off win against the Park Rapids Esox amateur baseball team in a Lake and Pine League game at Nimrod on June 23.

The Esox took a 1-0 lead in the third inning before Nimrod scored single runs in the fourth and fifth for a 2-1 advantage.

Ty Karger's three-run home run in the seventh gave Park Rapids a 4-2 lead before the Gnats rallied for the winning runs in the ninth.

Park Rapids pounded out 13 hits with Jack Naugle going 4 for 5 with a run scored, Karger going 3 for 4, Zach Hocking going 2 for 5 with a run, and Austin Becker going 2 for 5. Riley Massie (1 for 5) and Kevin Kuhn (1 for 3 with a double) had the other hits while Nick Jamser scored the other run.

TJ Erickson pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Five Park Rapids errors led to three unearned runs as the Esox fellt o 4-4 on the season.

The Esox resume league play with a game at Staples on July 13 and a home game with Sebeka on July 14. Both games start at 1:30 p.m.

Shockers prevail

Wadena-Deer Creek jumped out to a 7-0 lead and held on for an 8-5 amateur baseball victory at Midway on June 23.

The Shockers scored two runs in the first inning, three runs in the third, and single runs in the fifth and sixth to build a 7-0 lead.

After Midway scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, W-DC made it 8-1 in the seventh. The Snurdbirds scored four times in the bottom of the seventh before the Shockers held on for the win.

Midway finished with six hits with Chris Baso going 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI and Cory Odland going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Alex White went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored while Preston Riewer scored a run and had an RBI. CJ Maki and Ike Kyllonen scored the other runs for the Snurdbirds.

Odland started and took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts in four innings. Stetson Burkman gave up three runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in three innings while Riewer walked one and struck out two in two scoreless innings.

The loss dropped Midway to 1-6 on the season.

The Snurdbirds travel to Nimrod on Saturday (July 6) and host Wolf Lake on Sunday (July 7) in a pair of Lake and Pine League games. Both games start at 1:30 p.m.
