Despite ending the regular season with a seven-game losing streak, the Nevis baseball team received the No. 2 seed in the West for the Section 5A playoffs.

Nevis (9-9) will host No. 7 Cass Lake-Bena (4-7) in a first-round game on Thursday (May 23) at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers routed Cass Lake-Bena 24-4 on May 2.

Menahga (3-12-1) received the No. 6 seed and will travel to No. 3 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (12-6) on Thursday (May 23) for a 4:30 p.m. start. W-H-A defeated the Braves 7-4 on May 2.

The other first-round games in the West feature No. 1 Sebeka (13-7) hosting No. 8 Laprote (0-10) and No. 4 Pine River-Backus (5-8) hosting No. 5 Hill City/Northland (4-11). The Section 5A West tournament begins double-elimination play on Tuesday (May 28) at the high seeds at 4:30 p.m. 

Hinckley-Finlayson (10-5) and Braham (11-3) are the top seeds in the East.
