Panthers fall to 3-7 with loss to Rebels

Tanner Tahran threw a five-hitter in leading Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton to a 7-2 win over the Park Rapids baseball team in a Section 8AA matchup at the Area High School field on Tuesday, May 14.

Park Rapids took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tristin Persons reached on an error, advanced to third on a single by Ty Karger and scored on Brody Hagen's RBI single.

D-G-F strung together three singles to tie the game at 1-1 in the second before two hits, two walks and two errors gave the Rebels a 4-1 lead in the third.

Lucas Dickinson singled and scored on Cameron Hoyt's sacrifice fly in the fourth as the Panthers cut the gap to 4-2, but D-G-F sealed the win as two singles produced a run in the fifth and two singles and an error led to the final two runs in the seventh.

Singles by Gabe Bagstad in the fourth and Karger in the fifth accounted for the Panthers' other hits. Bagstad took the loss, allowing nine hits and four walks while striking out four in 6 ⅔ innings. Hagen struck out the only batter he faced in the seventh.

The Rebels improved to 3-5 in section games and 6-5 overall while Park Rapids fell to 1-6 in the section and 3-7 overall.

Patriots sweep

Pequot Lakes followed a 7-2 win in the first game with an 18-0 five-inning win in the second game to sweep a Mid-State Conference doubleheader from the Panthers on Monday, May 13.

In the opener, the Panthers trailed 4-0 before scoring twice in the sixth on a walk to Bagstad, a single by Karger, a double by Brendan Kruchowski and an error. Dickinson and Jens Anderson followed with singles, but the Panthers left the bases loaded as Pequot Lakes sealed the win by scoring three times in the bottom of that inning.

The Panthers had eight hits with Karger going 2 for 4 and Kruchowski and Dickinson both going 2 for 3. Kruchowski started and took the loss as the Patriots finished with 13 hits.

Pequot Lakes combined 11 hits with seven walks, three hit batters and five Park Rapids errors in coasting to the win in the second game. The Patriots scored 12 runs in the second inning as Tanner Hensel took the loss. Persons singled in the first to account for the lone hit for the Panthers, who fell to 3-4 in the conference. Pequot Lakes improved to 5-1 in Mid-State games and 9-4 overall. Aitkin tops the conference standings at 6-0.
