Panthers open section baseball playoffs by hosting Roseau

Gabe Bagstad and the Park Rapids baseball team will open the Section 8AA playoffs by hosting Roseau Tuesday (May 29) at 5 p.m.

Closing out the regular season with a six-game winning streak gave the Park Rapids baseball team a home game to open the Section 8AA playoffs.

The Panthers closed the regular season with a 12-0 five-inning win at Bagley Thursday and a Mid-State Conference doubleheader sweep against Crosby-Ironton at Crosby Friday, following a 12-4 win in the first game with a 13-4 five-inning win in the second game.

Park Rapids ended the regular season with an 11-6 overall record and received the No. 3 seed in the North for the Section 8AA tournament. The Panthers will host No. 6 Roseau (8-8) Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Area High School field with the winner advancing to the next round of double-elimination play Thursday (May 31) at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Park Rapids.

The other opening-round Section 8AA North playoff games Tuesday pit No. 1 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (17-2) against the winner between No. 8 Crookston (2-15) and No. 9 Bagley (4-11), No. 2 East Grand Forks (14-2) hosting No. 7 Hawley (7-9) and No. 4 Warroad (8-6) hosting No. 5 Thief River Falls (9-9).

In the South half, No. 1 Pequot Lakes (15-3) hosts No. 8 Barnesville (2-14), No. 2 Perham (15-4) hosts No. 7 Staples-Motley (4-15), No. 3 Wadena-Deer Creek (16-4) hosts No. 6 Ottertail Central (7-11) and No. 4 Breckenridge (11-6) hosts No. 5 Frazee (11-8). Perham will host the next rounds on Thursday (May 31).

Park Rapids will host the section finals on June 5.
