Jen Stifter and Shelby Pihlaja combined for 33 points in leading the Menahga girls basketball team to a 47-42 win over Pine River-Backus Thursday night at Pine River.
Stifter scored 17 points and had three steals while Pihlaja added 16 points and five assists to lead the Braves. Cierra Ahlf led Menahga with eight rebounds while Hannah Allebach and Lakyn Anderson had five rebounds each. Allebach, Anderson and Ahlf had two steals each while Ahlf dished out three assists as the Braves improved to 2-3.
Megan Felthous (17) and Shelby Adkins (13) combined for 30 points to lead PR-B, which fell to 2-3.

Balanced Tigers defeat Bears
A balanced scoring attack sparked the Nevis girls basketball team to a 58-36 win over Bertha-Hewitt Friday night.
Hannah Bliss scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Becca Nelson hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Madisyn Lucas also hit double figures with 11 points for the Tigers, who led 32-23 at the half before taking control by outscoring the Bears 26-13 in the second half.
Emma Bliss led the Tigers with 10 rebounds and joined Jordyn Lucas with three steals. Jordyn Lucas also had four assists while Nelson dished out three assists.
The win lifted Nevis to 3-3 on the season. B-H fell to 0-7.

“I wouldn’t call it a complete game, but probably the best we’ve played thus far,” said Nevis head coach Mike Lien. “It was nice to see a balanced scoring attack. We had a nice inside-out game going throughout the game. I feel our transition offense was one of the main factors we came away with the victory. The girls did a nice job of running the floor.”

Austin Rudquist scored 17 points as the Menahga boys basketball team was defeated by Nevis 59-44 Thursday night at Nevis.
Kyle Skoog and Austen Schwartz combined for 14 points with Calvin Taylor leading the Braves with six rebounds. Jake Kicker had two assists for Menahga, which fell to 4-4 on the season.
