Balanced offense leads Park Rapids softball team past W-DC
A 12-hit attack powered the Panthers to a 13-3 victory.
Seven different players contributed a hit, seven different players batted in a run and seven different players scored a run to lead the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team to a 13-3 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek in a game between Section 8AA teams at Wadena on Thursday, May 27.
Park Rapids took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ellie Ulvin walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Abby Morris’ sacrifice fly.
A two-run fourth inning pushed the lead to 3-0. Singles by Chloe Tretbar and Mickey Clark and an error led to those two runs.
After W-DC scored a run in the bottom of that inning, a seven-run fifth inning put the Panthers in control. A single by Shailyn Pachel and walks to Tretbar and Clark started the inning. Avery Cederstrom reached on a bunt single before an RBI single by Allison Offerdahl and a run-scoring grounder by Ulvin followed. RBI doubles by Tori Weaver and Pachel capped off that inning that produced a 10-1 advantage.
The Wolverines scored twice in the bottom of the fifth before Park Rapids concluded the scoring with a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh. Clark reached on a bunt single and scored on an error in the sixth while a single by Ulvin and a walk to Weaver set up RBI singles by Pachel and Tretbar in the seventh.
Pachel went 3 for 3, Tretbar went 2 for 4, Clark went 2 for 3 and Offerdahl went 2 for 4 to lead the Panthers’ 12-hit offensive attack. Ulvin and Clark also stole three bases each as the Panthers had nine steals in the game.
Tretbar picked up the win, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over the first six innings. Offerdahl pitched a scoreless seventh.
The win lifted Park Rapids to 3-5 in section games and 10-9 overall while W-DC fell to 1-5 against section opponents and 8-12 overall.
