Area teams compete at Perham Invitational

Annika Aho just missed a top-10 finish as United North Central placed 14th with 353 points at the 27-team Perham Invitational cross-country meet Thursday at Arvig Park.

Annika Aho just missed a top-10 finish as United North Central placed 14th with 353 points at the 27-team Perham Invitational cross-country meet Thursday at Arvig Park.

Aho placed 11th overall with a 5K time of 19:25 to lead UNC. Rounding out the Warriors' team score were Kaarin Lehto (68th in 21:16), Gabby Hrdlicka (88th in 21:57), Alessandra Matson (97th in 22:09) and Lora Isaacson (126th in 23:39).

Park Rapids had four runners compete with Julia Harmon placing 75th in 21:31 to lead the way. Holly Johnson finished 91st in 22:04, Whitney Steffel was 127th in 23:44 and Mikaela Nelson placed 138th in 25:00 in her first varsity meet this season.

Nevis' Jade Rypkema finished 19th in 19:52 while Izzy Wallace (142nd in 27:38) and Haylie Mowell (144th in 30:16) also ran for the Tigers.

Lakeville South's Brianne Brewster took first in 18:14 as 144 runners competed on varsity. Lakeville South won the team title with 64 points.

Park Rapids, Nevis and United North Central all had complete teams in the boys race.

Park Rapids finished 21st with 602 points with Keegan Moses (79th in 18:07), Seth Breitweser (86th in 18:14), Ashton Clark (140th in 19:30), Skylar Hagen (147th in 19:50) and Owen Wagner (150th in 20:20) leading the way.

Nevis followed in 22nd place with 635 points as Jack McNamee (72nd in 17:51), Michael Gunn (101st in 18:33), George Bjorkland (149th in 20:17), Reese Mowell (155th in 20:28) and Jack Johnson (158th in 20:36) comprised the team score.

Leading UNC to 23rd place with 637 points were Andreas Aho (89th in 18:18), Christian Johnson (115th in 18:50), Aaron Pietila (139th in 19:29), Eddie Salmen (146th in 19:45) and Sam Jackola (148th in 20:00).

Staples-Motley's Emmet Anderson led the 184-runner field with a winning 5K time of 15:45. Moorhead won the team title with 58 points, edging Perham's 59 points.
