Amateur Baseball: Park Rapids' offense erupts in win over Wolf Lake

The Esox belt out 17 hits, take advantage of 11 walks in a 22-8 Lake & Pine League victory.

PARK RAPIDS – All 10 players contributed a hit and scored a run as the Park Rapids Esox rolled to a 22-8 Lake & Pine League amateur baseball victory over Wolf Lake on Sunday, June 19.

The 22 runs were a season best and helped the Esox snap a three-game losing streak.

Derek Lindow’s double, an error and DJ Reichling’s RBI grounder gave Park Rapids a 1-0 lead in the second inning before Wolf Lake took a 2-1 advantage in the third.

Park Rapids took control by outscoring the Wolf Pack 21-1 over the next four innings.

An error, two hit batters, two walks, a single by Matt Johanning and a two-run single by Kevin Murphy gave the Esox a 5-2 lead in the third. After the Wolf Pack scored a run in the fourth, two hit batters, two walks, an RBI single by Murphy and a two-run single by Reichling pushed Park Rapids’ advantage to 9-3 in the bottom of that inning.


A nine-run fifth inning made it 18-3. Singles by Isaiah Olson and Dawson McGee set up a two-run single by Murphy, a two-run double by Zach Hocking, an RBI triple by Riley Massie and an RBI single by Lindow. After a single by Dillon McGee, Olson’s two-run double and Dawson McGee’s RBI single capped off the inning.

Five walks and singles by John Massie and Dillon McGee led to Park Rapids’ final four runs in the sixth.

Wolf Lake concluded the scoring with five runs in the seventh as this game was ended early via the 10-run rule.

Lindow earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts over six innings. Dillon McGee and Murphy finished up.

Leading Park Rapids’ offensive attack, which featured 17 hits and 11 walks, were Olson (2-4, three runs, three RBI), Dawson McGee (2-3, two runs, two RBI), Murphy (4-5, three runs, six RBI), Hocking (1-4, three runs, two RBI), Riley Massie (1-5, one run, one RBI), Lindow (2-2, two runs, three RBI), John Massie (1-1, one run), Reichling (1-3, two runs, four RBI), Dillon McGee (2-5, two runs) and Johanning (1-3, three runs, one RBI).

The win lifted the Esox’s record to 5-1 in Lake & Pine League games and 5-4 overall. Park Rapids will travel to Verndale for a 1:30 p.m. start on Sunday, June 26.
