Anjalie Aho captured the Park Region Conference girls cross country title in leading United North Central to fourth place in the team standings at Wadena’s Whitetail Run Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Aho clocked a winning 5K time of 19:54 to lead the 47-runner field. The Warriors ended up finishing fourth with 101 points behind Wadena-Deer Creek (25), Ottertail Central (61) and Pillager (98) in this nine-team meet. This meet was run in three heats with three teams in each heat.
Rounding out UNC’s team score were Joanna Lehto (21st in 23:48), Gabby Hrdlicka (24th in 24:06), Mattea Smith (26th in 24:23) and Miley Westberg (29th in 25:05). Also running for the Warriors were Kaylee Westberg (31st in 25:20) and Rachael Smith (39th in 27:17). The Warriors competed without No. 2 runner Kaarin Lehto and No. 3 runner Kate Hendrickson.
UNC was also shorthanded in the boys meet and fielded an incomplete team with only four runners competing.
Andreas Aho received all-conference honors by placing ninth in 19:09. Guage Carstensen finished 39th in 21:27, Wesley Hodge was 51st in 23:28 and Henry Hultberg placed 59th in 29:35. Connor Korvela, Sam Jackola and Christian Johnson missed this meet.

Parkers Prairie’s Johnathan Suchy led the 69-runner field with a winning 5K time of 17:15 while Ottertail Central won the team title with 53 points.
The top 10 finishers earned all-conference honors while runners 11-20 received all-conference honorable mention honors.
“We were very happy with how Anjalie ran. She went out there and ran as hard as she needed to. We knew she was running against some tough competition, but with the way the conference meet was run, she knew she just needed to go out there and race against herself. And she did amazing,” said UNC head coach Nick Jasmer. “Overall, we were very happy with how all of our runners stepped up and ran.”
