Saturday's second annual Laporte Area Take a Kid Fishing drew 35 kids out on Garfield Lake to drop a line, 16 boats with two guides per boat lending their expertise. The numbers have doubled from last year's premier event. Each fisherkid receiving a T-shirt, hat, rod and reel, a loaded tackle box and a snack bag. Before venturing out, the kids were introduced to Aquatic Invasive Species and preventive measures to be taken. After an hour on the lake, Annika Olson, 12, of Laporte had hooked a perch and Seth Carlson, 11, of Bemidj, induced a walleye.
