Pequot Lakes and Crookston supported their claims as the teams to beat in the Mid-State Conference and Section 8A ranks by defeating the Park Rapids girls tennis team at the Depot Courts on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
The Panthers made their home debut with a 6-1 loss to Mid-State Conference rival Pequot Lakes and a 5-2 loss to Section 8A rival Crookston before ending this quadrangular meet with a 7-0 victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in another dual meet between section teams to improve to 4-2 on the season. Pequot Lakes improved to 17-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Crookston and a 7-0 victory over LP-GE while Crookston improved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-0 victory over LP-GE.
Patriots stay perfect
The Patriots improved to 3-0 against conference foes with six straight-set victories over Park Rapids in the first match.
Abby Morris earned the Panthers’ lone point when Pequot Lakes’ Megan Muller had to default with an injury after trailing 3-0 in the first set at No. 1 singles.
Pequot Lakes lost only six games in the other three singles matches and 12 games in the three doubles matches to remain undefeated on the season.

Crookston used a close win at No. 4 singles to seal the victory over Park Rapids in the second match.
Morgan Koppelman posted a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 3 singles while Mickey Clark and Macy Goochey combined for a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles to account for the Panthers’ two wins. Shailyn Hayes forced a deciding tiebreaker at No. 4 singles before Crookston’s Kaylie Clausen prevailed 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-6.
The Pirates won the other four matches in straight sets.

Panthers blank LP-GE
The Panthers dropped only 16 games in the seven matches to blank LP-GE in the final dual meet.
Park Rapids didn’t drop a game in three matches as Koppelman at No. 3 singles, Hayes at No. 4 singles, and Emmy Goochey and Abby Runyan at No. 3 doubles rolled to 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Morris won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Rachael Herman won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Macy Goochey and Clark prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles while Emily Schulz and Natalie Harvey coasted to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.
