Casey Hill and Justin Johnson played two solid rounds to win the Scratch Division of the 2 Man Best Ball/Scramble tournament by two shots at Headwaters Golf Club on June 11-12.
Hill and Johnson followed a 6-under 66 during the Best Ball portion of the two-day tournament on June 11 with a 10-under 62 during the Scramble portion on June 12 for a 16-under 128. Kevin Krigbaum and Tom Jenkins finished second with rounds of 69 and 61 for a 130 while Chris Myhro and Dale Fink finished third at 131 with rounds of 66 and 65 in the 38-team field.
Aaron Leintz and Matt Haugstad were the leaders after the first day as eagles on No. 1 and No. 15 along with birdies on No. 2, No. 4, No. 13, No. 16 and No. 18 led to an 8-under 64. Hill and Johnson used birdies on No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 8, No. 9, No. 15 and No. 18 for a 66 while Myhro and Fink used an eagle on No. 15 along with birdies on No. 1, No. 4, No. 13, No. 16, No. 17 and No. 18 to share second place at 66.
During the final round, Hill and Johnson carded birdies on No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 8 on the front side and birdies on No. 12, No. 13, No. 14, No. 15 and No. 18 on the back side to claim the title. Krigbaum and Jenkins moved into second place as birdies on No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, No. 7 and No. 9 led to a 29 on the front side while birdies on No. 13, No. 14, No. 15 and No. 16 resulted in a 32 on the back side to share the best round of the day. Myhro and Fink finished third after birdies on No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, No. 7, No. 10, No. 12, No. 15 and No. 18.
Leintz and Haugstad carded a 69 to share fourth place with Andrew Israelson and Nate Deziel (67-66) and defending champs Bryan Black and Kyle Bahe (69-64) at 133. Adam Riddering and Brandon Riddering carded rounds of 69 and 65 for a 134 to finish seventh while Danny Menton and Jim Foss carded rounds of 67 and 68 to place eighth at 135. Sharing ninth place at 136 were the duos of Cody Cook and Nick Bergen (68-68) and Tadd Usher and Tate Usher (75-61). The Ushers shared the best round on the final day at 61 with an eagle on No. 4 and birdies on No. 1, No. 2, No. 6, No. 7, No. 9, No. 11, No. 12, No. 14 and No. 15.
The eagle on No. 4 earned the Ushers a skin. Eric Ness and Mike Simonich also won a skin with an eagle on No. 5 on June 12. Winning skins on June 11 were Derek Hasselberg and Ekron Miller with a birdie on No. 12 and Leintz and Haugstad with their eagle on No. 1.
In the Handicap Division, Matt Koester and Ryan Olson topped the 41-team field with net rounds of 63 on June 12 and 64 on June 13 for a 127.
Brian Blair and Mike Harding finished second at 128 with rounds of 67 and 61 while Jed Ryan and Taylor Schroeder placed third at 129 with rounds of 64 and 65. Kevin Ondracek and Mark Ondracek finished fourth at 131 with rounds of 69 and 62.
Three teams shared fifth place at 132. Jim Day and Ron Litzau had rounds of 69 and 63, Ian Johnson and Scott Johnson carded rounds of 67 and 65, and Mike Dube and Todd Griffin had rounds of 67 and 65.
Sharing eighth place at 133 were the duos of Bob Paine and John Baer (67-66), Franz Ringle and Paul Nordeen (72-61), and Jake Hallett and Todd Hallett (70-63). Tying for 11th place at 134 were the teams of Brent Tollefson and Brian Knoblauch (71-63), David Bash and Jeff Massie (67-67), and Jake Lund and Justin Day (76-58).
Winning skins on June 12 were Ryan and Schroeder with an eagle on No. 12, the Johnsons with a birdie on No. 11, and Aaron Burnside and Logan Kranstover with an eagle on No. 14. Claiming skins on June 13 were Ken Larson and Kevin Wishy with an eagle on No. 3, Lund and Day with a double eagle on No. 6, and Kurt Mortenson and Tim Pederson with a double eagle on No. 16.
