Payton Rondestvedt scattered five hits for the win and went 3 for 4 at the plate in leading Wadena-Deer Creek to a 10-2 win over the Menahga baseball team in a Section 8AA playoff game at Wadena on Thursday, June 3.
A double by Ethan Hendrickson and a single by Liam Torola produced a run in the third while Ivan Anderson was hit by a pitch and scored on Charlie Hodge’s single in the fourth for Menahga’s two runs. Torola went 2 for 4 as the Braves had six hits. Eddie Salmen took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks with six strikeouts in five innings. Isaiah Usher gave up three runs on three hits in the sixth.
W-DC, the No. 2 seed in the South, had five extra-base hits in the game to improve to 20-2. Those two teams split games during the regular season with Menahga winning 4-3 and W-DC winning 4-0.
Menahga, the No. 3 seed, stayed alive with a 9-7 win over No. 4 Breckenridge in an elimination game at Wadena on Thursday, June 3.
Henry Salmen’s RBI double and Anderson’s two-run homer tied the game at 3-3 in the first before doubles by Nolan Haataja and Jack Pietila and RBI singles by Henry Salmen and Sam Jackola sparked a five-run third inning for an 8-4 lead. Singles by Hendrickson and Torola led to Menahga’s final run in the sixth.
Henry Salmen (2 for 3, two runs, two RBI), Jack Pietila (3 for 3, two RBI) and Jackola (2 for 3) led the Braves’ 11-hit attack. Jack Pietila earned the win, allowing six runs on six hits and four walks with six strikeouts in four innings. Hodge and Aaron Pietila finished up.
Breckenridge ended the season at 15-7 while the Braves advanced to face Warroad in another elimination game at Wadena on June 8 with an 18-5 record.
