Park Rapids head coaches Andrew Lachowitzer and Corey Hill were looking forward to serving as hosts for the state Class A True Team track meet.

Twelve boys teams and 12 girls teams were scheduled to compete for state titles at Vern Weekley Field on Friday, May 28. As it turned out, only three boys teams and five girls teams decided to travel to Park Rapids to compete against the Panthers while the other teams elected to compete at various other sites with all the results being combined in a virtual state competition.

Lachowitzer’s boys team ended up topping the four-team field with 173 points with Frazee (159), LCWM-Nicollet (155) and Morris Area (151) following. In the six-team girls field, Minnewaska Area led the way with 305.50 points while SWMCH-EHS (246.50), Paynesville (236), Barnesville (232.50), Park Rapids (205.50) and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (110) following.

After all the meets (which were held between May 24 and May 29) were combined, both Park Rapids teams placed ninth. The Park Rapids boys compiled 394 points as Pine Island took first with 552 points while the Park Rapids girls tallied 383 points as Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander finished first with 607.50 points.

In the True Team format, every competitor scores points with the individual winners in each event earning 24 points and the winning relay teams earning 36 points with the last finisher scoring 1 point.
