Park Rapids, Menahga and Nevis will open the section fastpitch softball tournament on the road as the playoffs begin on Tuesday, June 1.

Park Rapids (10-10) received the No. 5 seed in the North half of Section 8AA and will travel to No. 4 Thief River Falls (13-6) for a 5 p.m. start while Menahga (7-13) received the No. 8 seed in the South half of Section 8AA and will play No. 9 Ottertail Central (2-17) at Pequot Lakes at 3 p.m. The winner of that game plays No. 1 Pequot Lakes (16-4) at 5 p.m. Menahga defeated OTC by scores of 7-5 and 10-0 on May 11. Park Rapids and Thief River Falls didn’t meet during the regular season.

The other opening round games in the North half of Section 8AA find No. 8 Roseau (8-11) playing No. 9 Crookston (4-16) with the winner playing No. 1 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (19-1); No. 2 Hawley (19-1) hosting No. 7 East Grand Forks (8-11) and No. 3 Warroad (11-5) hosting No. 6 North Polk (13-5). Thief River Falls will host the next round on Thursday, June 3.

In the South half, No. 2 Frazee (14-6) hosts No. 7 Breckenridge (7-12), No. 3 Perham (9-11) hosts No. 6 Wadena-Deer Creek (8-12) and No. 4 Fergus Falls (8-12) hosts No. 5 Barnesville (9-11). Frazee will host the next rounds on Thursday, June 3.

The Section 8AA championship game will be played at Frazee on June 10.

Nevis received the No. 5 seed in the West for the Section 5A tournament and will travel to No. 4 Pine River-Backus for a 5 p.m. start. PR-B defeated Nevis by scores of 12-2 and 14-7 on April 29. The winner of that game plays at No. 1 Sebeka on Thursday, June 3. No. 3 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley hosts No. 6 Laporte in the other first-round game with the winners traveling to No. 2 Hill City/Northland on Thursday, June 3. The losers of the first round will meet at the high seed on Thursday, June 3.

Isle, Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale, Hinckley-Finlayson and McGregor are the top seeds in the East half of Section 5A.

Brainerd will host the Section 5A championship game on June 10.
