Menahga and Nevis will open the section baseball tournament at home while Park Rapids will hit the road as the playoffs begin on Tuesday, June 1.
Menahga (16-4) received the No. 3 seed in the South half of Section 8AA and will host No. 6 Fergus Falls (5-15) while Park Rapids (6-14) received the No. 6 seed in the North half of Section 8AA and will travel to No. 3 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (12-8). Both games start at 5 p.m. D-G-F defeated the Panthers 10-6 on May 14.
In the other opening games in the South, No. 8 Frazee (5-15) plays No. 9 Barnesville (4-15) with the winner playing at No. 1 Perham (17-3); No. 2 Wadena-Deer Creek (18-2) hosts No. 7 Ottertail Central (5-15); and No. 4 Breckenridge (14-5) hosts No. 5 Pelican Rapids (8-11). Wadena and Deer Creek will host the next rounds on Thursday, June 3.
The other first-round games in the North have No. 8 Hawley (5-14) playing No. 9 East Grand Forks (2-16) with the winner playing at No. 1 Warroad (16-3); No. 2 Roseau (16-4) hosting No. 7 Bagley (9-10); and No. 4 Thief River Falls (8-9) hosting No. 5 Crookston (9-9). The next rounds will be held at Park Rapids on Thursday, June 3, with games at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Wadena and Deer Creek will host the next rounds with the Section 8AA championship game to be played at a site to be determined on June 10.
Nevis received the No. 2 seed in the West for the Section 5A tournament and will host No. 7 Cass Lake-Bena at 5 p.m. Nevis (15-4) defeated CL-B (1-11) 18-1 in five innings on April 26. No. 3 Pine River-Backus (15-5) hosts No. 6 Laporte (3-10) and No. 4 Hill City (10-8) hosts No. 5 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (4-12) in the other opening round games in the West. No. 1 Sebeka (12-8) received a bye and will host the Hill City vs. W-H-A winner on Wednesday, June 2. The high seed of the other two games will host the second round on Wednesday, June 2, at 5 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the West finals on Friday, June 4, at 5 p.m.
In the East half of Section 5A, Hinckley-Finlayson (14-4), Braham (13-3), Onamia (7-9) and Ogilvie (10-10) were the top seeds.
Pierz will host the Section 5A championship game on June 10.
