Chas Melvin’s three-run home run and Logan Pulju’s grand slam sparked Perham to a 13-2 five-inning victory over the Park Rapids baseball team in a game between Section 8AA teams at the Area High School field on Tuesday, May 25.
Two errors and two walks set up Melvin’s blast in the second inning as the Yellowjackets claimed a 5-0 lead.
The Panthers took advantage of two errors to make it 5-2 in the third. Cole Ackerman reached on an error, James Hartig singled and Isaiah Olson reached on an error as Ackerman scored. Brody Hagen’s RBI double plated Hartig.
Two walks, a pair of hit batters and an error set up Pulju’s bases-clearing homer as Perham led 10-2 in the fourth. Perham capped off the scoring in the fifth on two singles, two errors and another hit batter.
Jaxson Lund’s one-out single in the fourth was the only other baserunner for the Panthers as Perham’s Gage Germolus threw a three-hitter and struck out six while allowing two unearned runs.
Olson went the distance for the Panthers, allowing six hits and five walks and hitting four batters while striking out four over five innings.
The win kept Perham atop the Section 8AA South standings with a 13-0 record in section games and a 17-2 overall mark. Wadena-Deer Creek is also 17-2 with Menahga (15-4) and Breckenridge (14-5) following.
