Frazee holds on
Frazee jumped out to a 9-2 lead before holding off a late rally by the Panthers for the win.
After the Hornets scored five runs in the first inning on an error and five singles, Park Rapids responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Tori Weaver singled and scored on Shailyn Pachel two-out double. Pachel stole third and scored on a throwing error to make it 5-2.
Another error and two singles set up a grand-slam home run by McKenna O’Brien that pushed Frazee’s lead to 9-2 in the second before the Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the inning on a single by Allison Offerdahl, an error and RBI singles by Kilea Persons and Weaver.
The Panthers threatened in the third when singles by Abby Morris and Chloe Tretbar and a walk to Pachel loaded the bases with no outs. However, Park Rapids failed to push a run across.
Frazee increased the lead to 10-4 in the fifth before the Panthers scored three times in the sixth on a single by Amber Berndt, a three-base error on Weaver’s fly ball and a two-run homer by Morris.
Offerdahl singled in the seventh, but that was the final baserunner as Frazee held on for the win.
Weaver, Morris and Offerdahl each 2 for 4 as the Panthers finished with 10 hits. Tretbar took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits and two walks while striking out three.
