Nimrod took advantage of 10 walks and seven errors to defeat the Park Rapids Esox 15-5 in seven innings in a Lake and Pine League amateur baseball game at Nimrod on Sunday, May 16.
The Gnats scored four times in the first inning before adding two runs in both the second and third innings to claim an 8-0 lead. After the Esox scored four times in the fifth, Nimrod scored six times in the fifth and once in the sixth to win via the 10-run rule.
Zach Hocking was hit by a pitch and Jason Haas walked to set up a three-run home run by Carter Opheim. A double by Riley Massie, an error and a single by Clayton Gallus produced the other run in the fifth for the Esox.
Park Rapids concluded the scoring in the seventh when Gallus was hit by a pitch and scored on an error and Brendan Kruchowski’s single.
Gallus went 3 for 3 as Park Rapids managed only six hits. Gallus also started and took the loss as the Esox fell to 0-2 in Lake and Pine League play and 0-3 overall. Nimrod improved to 2-0.
The Esox have the weekend off and will return to action by hosting Midway on May 29 and traveling to Staples on May 30 in a pair of Lake and Pine League games. Both games start at 1:30 p.m.
