Ethan Eischens and Nick Michaelson drove in three runs apiece to support Noah Larson’s four-hitter over six innings as the Park Rapids baseball team posted a 10-3 Section 8AA win at East Grand Forks on Thursday, May 13.

Park Rapids took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brody Hagen singled, stole second and scored on Cole Ackerman’s RBI single. After EGF tied the game in the second, Ackerman singled, stole second and scored on Michaelson’s RBI single in the fourth to make it 2-1. A three-run fifth inning pushed the Panthers’ lead to 5-1. An error and a single by Hagen set up a three-run home run by Eischens.

Jaxson Lund walked and scored on James Hartig’s sacrifice fly in the sixth before a four-run seventh inning gave Park Rapids a 10-1 advantage. Eischens was hit by a pitch and Ackerman singled to lead off the inning. After an error, Michaelson’s two-run single, Lund’s run-scoring grounder and Sawyer Torkelson’s RBI single capped off the scoring for the Panthers.

Hagen (2 for 4), Ackerman (3 for 4) and MIchaelson (2 for 4) led the Panthers’ 12-hit offensive attack. Larson improved to 3-0 on the season by allowing one run on four hits and two hit batters while striking out five. Chaise Persons gave up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in the seventh as the Green Wave fell to 1-6 in section games and 1-9 overall.

D-G-F tops Panthers

After taking a 5-4 lead in the fifth, the Panthers surrendered four runs in the bottom of that inning as Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton went on for a 10-6 win at Dilworth in another section game on Friday, May 14.

Isaiah Olson walked, stole second and scored on Hagen’s RBI single as the Panthers scored a run in the first, but D-G-F counted by scoring three times in the bottom of that inning.

After Hartig reached on an error and scored on Hagen’s grounder to cut the gap to 3-2 in the third, the Rebels scored a run in the bottom of that inning for a 4-2 lead.

The Panthers took a 5-4 lead in the fifth when an error set up a two-run homer by Eischens and a solo homer by Josh Crandall. But D-G-F countered in the bottom of that inning as an error, two singles and a home run by Kayden Camacho produced an 8-5 lead. A two-run homer by Jordan Summers in the sixth pushed the margin to 10-5.

The Panthers concluded the scoring in the seventh on Hagen’s solo homer.

Hagen and Eischens both went 2 for 4 to account for half of Park Rapids’ eight hits. Olson allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six in five innings for the loss. Harley Wellman gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in the sixth.

D-G-F improved to 8-4 in the section and 9-4 overall by winning for the seventh time in a row. Park Rapids fell to 1-3 against section opponents and 4-10 overall.

Perham (13-2), Warroad (12-2), Wadena-Deer Creek (10-2), Roseau (11-3), Breckenridge (10-2) and Menahga (9-4) top the section standings.
