The Nevis boys and girls track and field teams won eight events at the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Invitational on Friday, May 14.
Grace McNamee won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.64 and the triple jump with a distance of 28 feet, 4.50 inches while Makenna Frazier finished first in the 300 hurdles in 52.68 and the long jump at 13-10 as the Nevis girls placed third with 94 points. Adeline Bjorklund added a winning time of 6:05.43 in the 1,600.
Adding runner-up finishes for the Tigers were Marley Mitchell in the 400 (1:10.40) and the 4 x 200 relay team (2:01.23) while Izzy Brakke in the 100 hurdles (19.42) and Liddy DeWulf in the shot put (29-5.25) finished third. Placing fourth were McNamee in the 300 hurdles (55.99) and Mitchell in the long jump (12-5). In fifth place were Kendall Nelson in the 200 (31.87) and long jump (12-3) and Ava Isaacson in the discus (86-3).
Ayo Ogundeji finished first in the 100 in 11.58 and the 200 in 24.08 and Jon Rice led the field in the 110 hurdles in 17.71 as the Nevis boys finished fourth with 53 points.
Rice was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles in 46.35 while Reese Mowell in the 1,600 (5:29.21) took third. Ogundeji also placed fourth in the long jump at 14-8. Finishing fifth was Nathan Pyburn in the long jump (14-7.50) and triple jump (30-6).
Northome-Kelliher/Blackduck won the girls title with 185 points while W-H-A followed with 108 points in this six-team meet. Clearbrook-Gonvick (73), TrekNorth (27) and Cass Lake-Bena (23) also competed.
In the boys meet, W-H-A finished first with 188 points with NKB (112) and C-G (101) following. CL-B (34) and TrekNorth (25) trailed the Tigers.
