A four-run fifth inning and a two-run eighth inning rallied the Park Rapids Esox to a 10-9 Lake and Pine League amateur baseball victory over Staples at Park Rapids on Sunday, May 9.
A two-run single by Nick Jasmer gave the Esox a 2-2 tie in the second inning before Staples scored three times in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Singles by Jaxson Lund, Riley Massie and Jasmer led to a run in the bottom of that inning before the Lumberbats scored in the fifth for a 6-3 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, a double by Brendan Kruchowski and singles by Charlie Hodge and Massie gave the Esox a 7-6 lead before another run in the sixth made it 8-6. Staples reclaimed the lead by scoring three times in the seventh, but singles by TJ Erickson, Jason Haas and Hodge produced the winning runs in the eighth.
Massie, Jasmer and Hodge each went 2 for 4 as Park Rapids finished with 10 hits to improve to 1-1 on the season.
