Cain Mitchell went 4 for 4 with four runs scored and picked up the win in relief as the Nevis baseball team remained undefeated in Northland Conference play with a 14-8 win over Pine River-Backus on Thursday, May 6.
Derek Lindow (2 for 3, two RBI), Dan Aman (2 for 4, two runs, two RBI), Ethan Klimek (3 for 5), Eli Klimek (2 for 4, two RBI) and Dawson McGee (2 for 4) also contributed to the Tigers’ 17-hit offensive attack. Nevis trailed 5-1 before scoring twice in the third, six times in the fourth, twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth.
Ward Davis started and allowed five runs on two hits and three walks in 2 ⅓ innings. Mitchell gave up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in 2 ⅓ innings before Aman earned the save by issuing one run with three strikeouts over the final 2 ⅓ innings. Three Nevis errors led to four unearned runs.
The win gave Nevis a 7-0 record in the conference and an 8-1 overall mark. PR-B fell to 7-2 in conference games and 8-3 overall.
