Noah Larson threw a four-hitter to give the Park Rapids baseball team a Mid-State Conference split against Staples-Motley at Staples on Thursday, April 29.
Staples-Motley won the first game 11-3 before the Panthers earned the split with a 7-1 victory in the second game.
Jaxson Lund’s two-run single produced two runs in the third while two errors led to Park Rapids’ other run in the seventh. Isaiah Olson went 2 for 4 as the Panthers were held to five hits in the opener. Harley Wellman started and took the loss.
In the nightcap, the Panthers scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings to prevail in this five-inning game. Olson singled and scored on Ethan Eischens’ RBI single in the first before two errors set up Josh Crandall’s RBI single and Lund’s two-run single in the third. Four walks, three errors and Crandall’s two-run single produced the final three runs in the fourth. Crandall went 2 for 3 to pace the Panthers’ six-hit attack while Larson struck out seven and walked three for the win.
The split gave Staples-Motley a 3-1 record in the conference and overall.

Pequot Lakes capitalized on 23 walks to sweep the Panthers at Park Rapids on Monday, May 3.
The Patriots combined eight hits with 12 walks, two hit batters and nine Park Rapids errors to win the opener 13-11. Pequot Lakes managed only two hits in the second game, but 11 walks led to a 5-4 victory and the sweep.
In the first game, Pequot Lakes jumped out to a 10-4 lead before having to rally for the win. RBI singles by Lund and Brody Hagen and a sacrifice fly by Wellman gave Park Rapids a 3-2 lead in the first. After Morris’ RBI single tied the game at 4-4 in the third, the Patriots scored twice in the fourth and four times in the fifth to take a 10-4 lead.
A double by Hagen and an RBI single by James Hartig cut the gap to 10-6 in the bottom of the fourth before singles by Eischens, Crandall, Lund, Hagen, Nick Michaelson and Cole Ackerman produced five runs in the sixth to give Park Rapids an 11-10 lead. But Pequot Lakes rallied by scoring three times in the seventh for the win. Hagen (4 for 5), Ackerman (3 for 5) and Lund (2 for 4) led the way offensively as the Panthers pounded out 15 hits. Crandall took the loss in relief of Olson, Hagen and Michaelson.
In the second game, Crandall’s RBI single in the first gave Park Rapids a 1-0 lead before the Patriots scored three times in the bottom of the first and twice in the fourth to build a 5-1 lead. An error and singles by Eischens, Hagen and Michaelson pushed across three runs for the Panthers in the fifth, but Pequot Lakes held on for the sweep. Eischens took the loss in relief of Michaelson as those two pitchers combined for seven strikeouts.
Pequot Lakes improved to 3-2-1 in the conference and 4-3-1 overall while the Panthers fell to 2-6 in conference games and 2-7 overall.
