Melrose/Sauk Centre used nine winning times to hand the Park Rapids boys swimming and diving team its first loss of the season in the final regular-season meet of the season.

The Fusion posted four 1-2 showings in the 121-64 victory at Sauk Centre on Tuesday, Feb. 23. The loss gave Park Rapids an 8-1 record in dual meets this season.

Isaac Zinniel, Cameron Runyan and Elliott Nichols had the three winning performances for the Panthers. Zinniel won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:20.94, Runyan finished first in diving with 203.30 points and Nichols led the field in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.09.

Jordan Odor, Jacob Zinniel, Nichols and Isaac Zinniel clocked a runner-up 1:51.37 in the 200 medley relay while Odor finished second in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.58. Jacob Zinniel was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle in 56.83 and joined Isaac Zinniel, Runyan and Odor on the 200 freestyle relay team that took second in 1:39.23. Isaac Zinniel clocked a 1:03.31 in the 100 backstroke for another runner-up finish to close out the meet.

The Panthers will now prepare for the Section 5A meet, which will be held March 11 and 13.

“The boys raced well and I am proud of the season they have had so far,” said Park Rapids head coach Megan Rykhus. “I look forward to seeing some fast swims at sections in a few weeks.”
