Jerzie Horner and Gabby Whitworth won two events each in leading Detroit Lakes to a 136.35-120.85 win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis gymnastics team at the Area High School gym on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Horner led the field in vault with a 9.35 and in floor exercise with a 9.05 in winning the all-around title with a 34.425 while Whitworth took first on balance beam with a 9.00 and on uneven parallel bars with an 8.50.
Park Rapids’ best event was vault where Emma Berghuis’ runner-up 8.70, Natalie Berghuis’ 8.65, Morgan Koppelman’s 8.55 and a pair of 8.05s by Shailyn Hayes and Erica Johnson led to a 33.95 team score.
In floor, the Lakers’ claimed the top five scores with Koppelman’s 8.40, Hayes’ 7.65, Johnson’s 7.60 and Natalie Backmann’s 7.40 leading to a 31.05 team score for Park Rapids. Emma Berghuis added a 6.80.
Koppelman’s 8.35, Hayes’ 7.80, Natalie Berghuis’ 7.35 and a pair of 6.15s by Emma Berghuis and Backmann resulted in a 29.65 score on balance beam.
The Panthers received a 26.20 on bars behind Koppelman’s 7.55, Ally Holmer’s 6.75, Johnson’s 6.35 and Backmann’s 5.55. Emma Berghuis followed with a 5.40.
Koppelman was the runner-up in all-around with a 32.85 while Emma Berghuis placed fourth with a 27.05 as the Panthers fell to 1-5 in dual meets this season.
Detroit Lakes, which defeated the Panthers 130.05-118.85 earlier this season, received scores of 35.35 in floor, 34.55 in vault, 34.10 on beam and 32.35 on bars.
The Lakers prevailed in the junior varsity meet by a score of 116.50-78.05.
