Noah Stevens threw a two-hitter in the first game and Ike Kyllonen didn’t allow a hit through four innings in the second game as Sebeka/Menahga swept a doubleheader from the Park Rapids Senior Babe Ruth baseball team on Monday, July 27.

Sebeka/Menahga followed a 14-1 win in five innings in the opener by holding on for a 6-4 victory in the second game at Park Rapids.

In the opener, Jack Pietila’s RBI single gave Sebeka/Menahga a 1-0 lead before Park Rapids tied it in the bottom of the first when Isaiah Olson reached on an error and scored on a throwing error.

Sebeka/Menahga took control by scoring twice in the second, twice in the third and six times in the fourth before ending this game early via the 10-run rule with three runs in the fifth.

Cole Ackerman singled in the third and fifth innings to account for Park Rapids’ only hits. Harley Wellman started and took the loss, allowing nine runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. Olson finished up, giving up five runs on four hits. Those two pitchers combined to walk five and strike out six while hitting four batters.

In the second game, Kyllonen didn’t allow a run despite walking six batters in the first four innings. Ackerman and Olson walked to lead off the first, Ethan Eischens and Wyatt Rech walked to lead off the second and Collin Hoyt followed with a one-out walk, and Eischens walked with one out in the fourth. All were left stranded as a double play helped end the second inning.

Sebeka/Menahga scored once in the third and twice in the fourth before three throwing errors produced three more runs in the fifth for a 6-0 lead.

Park Rapids attempted a late rally in the bottom of the fifth when Kyllonen walked Hoyt and Ackerman to lead off the inning. Isaac Tellers took over on the mound for Kyllonen and walked Olson, gave up two-run singles to Ty Karger and Eischens, and walked Rech before recording his third strikeout of the inning to preserve the win.

Derek Lindow went the distance, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out eight as Park Rapids fell to 3-7 on the season.

Sebeka/Menahga opened the season by sweeping Park Rapids by scores of 6-2 and 12-6 at Sebeka on July 8.

PR, Pillager split

For the third doubleheader in a row, Park Rapids settled for a split.

Park Rapids won the first game 5-3 before Pillager responded for a 4-3 victory in the second game at Park Rapids on July 23 in a doubleheader that was postponed on July 22.

Olson, Shep Davis and Josh Crandall scored during a three-run first inning. After Karger scored in the third, Jaxson Lund scored the winning run in the fourth. Davis was the winning pitcher.

In the second game, Pillager scored once in the first and three times in the third to salvage the split. Olson, Karger and Brendan Kruchowski scored during a three-run first inning for Park Rapids.
