The home opener for Park Rapids’ 18-U fastpitch softball team didn’t go so well as Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton followed a 14-0 win in five innings with a 15-0 victory in four innings on Tuesday, July 21.

D-G-F, which featured its varsity team that has played in four tournaments and several league games this summer, had 44 baserunners in the doubleheader. D-G-F pounded out 23 hits, drew 10 walks, had four batters hit by pitches and took advantage of four errors in nine innings at the plate.

A young Park Rapids team managed only seven baserunners on two singles, four walks and an error in the two games. This was only Park Rapids’ second doubleheader of the summer.

In the first game, D-G-F scored seven runs in the second inning and four runs in the fifth inning to spark the win in this scheduled seven-inning game that ended early via the 10-run rule. D-G-F had 14 hits against pitcher Mac Raddatz.

Ellie Ulvin walked to lead off the first inning, Maddy Brakke walked with one out in the third, and Chloe Tretbar walked and Mickey Clark reached on an error in the fourth to account for Park Rapids’ four baserunners.

D-G-F completed the sweep by scoring four times in the first, three times in the second, twice in the third and six times in the fourth to end this scheduled five-inning game early via the 10-run rule. Tretbar issued nine hits, seven walks and hit three batters in that game.

Raddatz singled in the first inning while Cassidy Bera singled and Brakke walked in the second to account for Park Rapids’ three baserunners.

Rounding out Park Rapids’ starting lineup were Tori Weaver, Natalie Harvey and Hailey Kimball. Ken Tretbar is coaching the 18-U team.

Park Rapids, which opened the season against Detroit Lakes (playing to an 11-11 tie and falling 8-6) will conclude its home schedule with a doubleheader against New York Mills on Aug. 4. Those games will be played at 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the Area High School field.
