The 9th annual Grandpa Andy Memorial Panther Club Golf Benefit Scramble was another success as 18 teams helped raise funds for the Park Rapids boys and girls golf program at Headwaters Golf Club on Friday, June 26.
The team of Ian Johnson, Mike McDowell, Bailey Mueller, Keith Mueller and Scott Williams topped the 18-team field with an 18-under par round of 54 in this 5-person scramble. Three teams followed with rounds of 16-under par 56s. Tying for second place were the team of Mike Dunn, William Eichten, Jim Emerson and Michael Tupa; the team of Lee Davis, Jeff Massie, Shelly Miller, Wayne Nelson and Todd Sanquist; and the team of Chris Bungert, Todd Eernisse, Mady Maninga, Jerre Petersen and Trent Wilcox.
Flag winners were James Marcy (closest to the pin on No. 3), Eernisse (closest to the pin on No. 8 and longest drive for the men on No. 13), Sara Gallus (longest drive for the women on No. 9) and Cody Schirmers (longest made putt on No. 18).
“The tournament went great. During a regular non-COVID season, we average 20 teams. To have 18 teams in the small time frame we had to work with, was great,” said Min Klein, the treasurer for the Park Rapids Golf Booster Club. “The PR golf program is funded by the booster club and this tournament is our sole fundraiser. Being able to host the tournament this year ensures the funding needed to continue the golf program for kids in grades 5-12. We are very fortunate to live in a community that supports our youth programs. Businesses and individuals make donations to the club with some putting teams together. It was a great day and I just want to thank everybody who had a part in making it a success.”
