Olivia Adkins scored 30 points to spark Pine River-Backus to a 76-50 Northwoods Conference victory over the Nevis girls basketball team at the Tiger Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Adkins opened the game by hitting four 3-pointers, but Nevis countered with three baskets by Makenna Frazier, a 3-pointer by Addison Lindow, and a jumper by Ava Isaacson as the game was tied at 12-12. PR-B responded with a 13-0 run to take the lead for good. Three baskets by Isaacson and a layup and three free throws by Frazier kept Nevis within 29-23 at the half.
PR-B took control by following a 17-2 run with a 9-1 run to build a 55-28 lead. A 3-pointer and a layup by Lindow, two baskets apiece by Frazier and Isaacson, and layups by Kia Heide, Mya Stacey and Izzy Wallace led the Tigers the rest of the way.
Isaacson’s double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds and Frazier’s 17 points and six rebounds led Nevis. Kaylie Bessler and Heide hauled down seven rebounds each while Heide had five assists as the Tigers fell to 4-10 in the conference and 5-18 overall.
Ramsey Tulenchik (17) and Emma Barchus (11) also scored in double figures as PR-B improved to 5-5 in the conference and 14-9 overall. PR-B, which defeated the Tigers 76-44 on Dec. 19, had 21 steals and forced 26 Nevis turnovers while going 5 for 31 on 3-pointers.
Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (10-1), Red Lake (10-2), Cass Lake-Bena (11-4), Blackduck (9-5) and Clearbrook-Gonvick (9-5) top the conference standings.
