Leeza Tostenson tallied a hat trick for the second game in a row as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek 8-1 Tuesday night at Wadena.
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals by Brittany Floyd and Heather Brostrom in the first period. McKenna Brand set up Floyd's goal with 4:28 to play while Brand and Allie Bade had assists on Brostrom's goal with 58 seconds to go.
A four-goal second period put the Panthers in control. Tostenson scored at the 14:39 and 8:09 marks. Ashley Thelen had an assist on Tostenson's second goal. Hannah Williams and Brand set up Brostrom at the 7:40 mark before Brand scored with 6:06 to play in the period to give the Panthers a 6-0 advantage. Park Rapids dominated that period with a 20-4 advantage in shots.
Tostenson completed her hat track with 2:31 to play on assists from Thelen and Taylor Pachel. Thelen then set up Bade for the game's final score just before the buzzer as the Panthers won their third game in a row.
Jessica Gapinski saved 13 of the 14 shots she faced for the win as the Panthers finished with a 42-14 advantage in shots.
Park Rapids, which defeated the Blue Devils 5-1 and 6-3 earlier this season, improved to 8-11-2. LPGE/WDC fell to 6-11.
