Nevis jumped out to a 20-3 lead in coasting to a 57-32 victory over Bertha-Hewitt in a game between Section 5A teams at the Tiger Arena on Thursday, Jan. 16.
Frazier’s two layups and a jumper, Funk’s basket off a rebound, two layups apiece by Isaacson and Heide, Mya Stacey’s jumper, and Lindow’s jumper gave the Tigers a 20-3 lead with 7:47 to play in the first half. Two inside baskets by Isaacson and a jumper by Funk extended the lead to 27-5 at the 4:02 mark before jumpers by Kayli Bessler and Lindow and Lindow’s 3-pointer from halfcourt at the buzzer produced a 34-14 advantage at the half.
Jumpers by Bessler and Izzy Wallace, a 3-pointer by Stacey, two inside baskets by Frazier, and two baskets by Lindow gave the Tigers a 51-24 cushion with 7:06 to play. A layup off a steal by Funk and jumpers by Amya Gilmore and Wallace capped off the scoring.
Frazier’s 13 points and six steals and Lindow’s 11 points and five steals led the Tigers. Isaacson (13), Lindow (8) and Marley Mitchell (6) combined for 27 rebounds while Funk had six steals as Nevis tallied 24 steals while forcing 37 turnovers to improve to 2-4 against Section 5A teams and 4-11 overall.
The Bears fell to 1-6 in section games and 2-12 overall.
