Fourteen forfeits and four pins enabled the Park Rapids wrestling team to pick up a pair of dual-meet victories at Fertile on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
The Panthers received eight forfeits and had three pins in a 66-18 win over Larimore (North Dakota) and used six forfeits and a pin to post a 51-30 win over Fertile-Beltrami, which defeated Larimore 42-18 in the other match.
Against Larimore, Robby Sherk opened with a pin in 52 seconds at 106 pounds to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead. Larimore won the next two matches to claim a 12-6 advantage before Park Rapids won 10 of the final 11 matches. Zach Paurus’ pin in 1:56 at 126 and Hunter Carnell’s pin in 50 seconds at 220 highlighted that run, which saw Lucas Kritzeck at 132, Henry Thorson at 138, Joe Klein at 152, Kaden Safratowich at 160, Harley Wellman at 170, Tristan Hill at 182, Joe Stachowski at 195 and D’Andre Johnson at 285 receive forfeits.
Park Rapids trailed Fertile-Beltrami 24-16 before rallying for the win by winning six of the final seven matches. Sherk (at 106) and Jarrett Galzki (at 113) received forfeits and Kritzeck used a takedown and nearfall in the first period, a nearfall in the second period, and a pair of takedowns in the third period for a 10-1 major decision at 132 as the Panthers led 16-12. Fertile-Beltrami won the next two matches before Klein’s 17-2 technical fall win at 152 started the rally. Klein had a takedown and nearfall in the first period, three nearfalls in the second period, and two takedowns in the third period as the match ended at the 5:38 mark. Forfeit wins by Safratowich at 160, Wellman at 170, HIll at 195 and Stachowski at 220 and Carnell’s pin in 5:41 at 285 capped off the comeback in this match between Section 8A teams.
Park Rapids improved to 1-2 in section matches and 4-5 overall while Fertile-Beltrami fell to 1-3 against section opponents and 3-3 overall.
