Wade Berttunen hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points in leading the Menahga boys basketball team to a 70-51 Park Region Conference win over Sebeka at Verndale on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The Braves trailed 10-2 before jumpers by Tristan Aho, Victor Aho and Charlie Hodge and layups by Tristan Aho and Jonah Howard provided a 14-14 tie. A jumper by Tristan Aho, a 3-pointer by Hodge, a three-point play by Andreas Aho and a layup by Brock Berttunen gave Menahga a 25-15 lead. A 3-pointer by Andreas Aho made it 29-21 at the half.
A jumper and a 3-pointer by Hodge, three 3-pointers by Wade Berttunen and a layup by Howard extended Menahga’s advantage to 47-31. A three-point play by Tristan Aho was followed by a layup and 3-pointer by Hodge as the Braves led 56-40. Tristan Aho scored off a rebound and Wade Berttunen hit two 3-pointers and converted a pair of layups as Menahga pulled away.
Hodge added 13 points and Tristan Aho had 11 points and seven rebounds as the Braves connected on 9 of 24 3-pointers. Howard led the way with 10 rebounds, Brock Berttunen had six rebounds, Hodge had three steals, and Andreas Aho and Wade Berttunen dished out three assists each as the Braves improved to 3-1 in the conference and 6-5 overall.
Kolby Kiser (18) and Dawson Bullock (15) combined for 33 points as the Trojans fell to 2-4 in conference games and 3-7 overall.
