UNC's Paulson shares 9th place at state meet

United North Central's Stephanie Paulson turned in another top-10 finish in her second trip to the state Class A girls golf tournament.

Paulson, who tied for fifth place with a 188 last year, carded back-to-back rounds of 88 Wednesday and Thursday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker to share ninth place with a 176.

The Sebeka senior opened the state tournament with rounds of 43 and 45 for an 88. That put Paulson in sixth place at the midway point. Madelia's Anna Maria Tarazona led the field with a 77.

Paulson duplicated that round during Thursday's final 18 holes by following a 46 on the front side with a 42 on the back side. Paulson's 176 tied Providence Academy's Chelsea Gross for ninth place.

Tarazona maintained her lead by carding a 77 on Thursday for a 154. Providence Academy's Sarah Utz was second with a 157. Also finishing ahead of Paulson were Mounds Park Academy's Natalie Lansing with a 165, Fosston's Amy Mireault with a 166, Deer River's Becca Rudquist with a 173, Mounds Park Academy's Lauren Hood and Osakis' Kelsey Ross with 174s, and Mounds Park Academy's Meghan Kloeber with a 175. Lansing won the state title last year with a 161.

Paulson qualified for the state meet by placing fourth at the Section 6A meet with a 92.
