Eleven winning efforts, including five 1-2 finishes, helped the Park Rapids boys swimming and diving team enter the win column for the first time this season with a decisive 109-49 victory over Perham/New York Mills at the Area High School pool on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Jordan Odor, Cameron Runyan, Jake Zinniel and Isaac Zinniel opened this Mid-State Conference dual meet with a winning time of 2:02.21 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Marcus Benson and Elliott Nichols followed with a 1-2 showing in the 200 freestyle with respective times of 1:50.84 and 2:10.94 before Odor won the 200 individual medley in 2:36.54. Runyan’s first-place finishes of 26.47 in the 50 freestyle and 156.15 points in diving gave the Panthers a commanding 43-18 advantage.
Benson’s winning time of 58.15 and Leo Kaufenberg’s runner-up 1:25.80 in the 100 butterfly and Jake Zinniel’s winning time of 59.07 in the 100 freestyle were followed by a 1-2 showing by Odor (in 5:53.40) and Nichols (in 6:10.26) in the 500 freestyle as Park Rapids extended its lead to 72-28.
A winning time of 1:43.78 by Benson, Runyan, Isaac Zinniel and Nichols was followed by a runner-up 2:00.95 by Dominick Backmann, Malachi Martin, Nicholas Graham and Kaufenberg as the Panthers clocked a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Jake Zinniel then clocked a runner-up 1:13.68 in the 100 backstroke.
The Panthers ended the meet with Isaac Zinniel’s winning time of 1:22.09 in the 100 breaststroke and a winning time of 3:56.35 by Benson, Jake Zinniel, Nichols and Odor in the 400 freestyle relay.
The win gave Park Rapids a 1-3 record in dual meets this season.
