First-period pins by Lucas Kritzeck, Kaden Safratowich, Harley Wellman and Joe Stachowski sparked the Park Rapids wrestling team to a 46-32 victory over United Clay Becker at the Area High School gym on Thursday, Jan. 9.
A minor decision win at 106 pounds and pins at 120 and 126 gave UCB a 14-6 lead. Jarrett Galzki received a forfeit win at 113 for the Panthers.
Kritzeck started the comeback with a pin in 18 seconds at 132 before Henry Thorson received a forfeit win at 138 as the Panthers claimed an 18-14 advantage.
UCB regained the lead with a pin at 145, but the Panthers responded with Joe Klein’s 15-4 major decision at 152. Takedowns in the first and second periods gave Klein a 4-1 lead before three takedowns and two nearfalls in the third period sealed the win. That produced a 22-20 lead as Park Rapids started to take control.
Safratowich’s pin in 1:02 at 160 made it 28-20 before the Badgers received a forfeit at 170 to cut the gap to 28-26. Wellman’s pin in 1:43 at 182 and Stachowski’s pin in 59 seconds at 195 pushed the lead to 40-26. D’Andre Johnson received a forfeit at 285 to conclude the scoring.
The win lifted Park Rapids to 2-5 in dual meets while the Badgers (a cooperative between Lake Park-Audubon and Hawley) fell to 3-7.
