Jack Slagle’s power-play goal provided the only scoring for the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team in a 5-1 Mid-State Conference loss to Detroit Lakes at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Detroit Lakes took a 2-0 lead on Jordan Fields’ goal at the 6:10 mark and Jackson Fields’ power-play goal at the 10:31 mark of the first period. Nash Mitchell assisted on Slagle’s goal with 15 seconds remaining in the opening period as the Panthers cut the gap to 2-1.
Jacob McAllister gave the Lakers a 4-1 lead with a goal at the 7:41 mark and a power-play goal at the 11:16 mark. Alex Bren followed with a goal with 1:40 to play in the second period to conclude the scoring.
The Lakers held a 42-15 advantage in shots on goal. Ben Strandlie finished with 37 saves, including 15 during a scoreless third period, for the Panthers.
The win lifted Detroit Lakes to 3-0 in the conference, 1-2 against Section 8A opponents and 4-3 overall. Park Rapids fell to 0-2 in the conference, 0-2 against section foes and 0-3 overall.
